Engaging with the community is a priority for GW Medical Center and an important part of how it defines itself. It is estimated one in every 20 adults in the District is infected with HIV. The GW HIV/AIDS Institute is addressing this epidemic by harnessing GW's resources and expertise in a multidisciplinary approach to make a significant impact in research, prevention, detection, and treatment of HIV/AIDS. The cancer death rate in the District is among the nation's highest, and the Medical Center is playing a pivotal role in addressing this issue through research, policy work, breaking down barriers to provide quality care to the medically underserved in our community, and integrating clinical care and outreach with research and education. This session features presentations about the Medical Center's signature programs in HIV/AIDS and Cancer, followed by a reception for President and Diane Robinson Knapp and our community partners.
